Moles

"Moles are common and normally harmless skin lesions that occur in most people. However, their careful monitoring is a key aspect in the prevention of skin cancer. At our clinic, we use advanced technology, including an AI-supported whole-body videographic examination, to ensure comprehensive documentation and monitoring of moles. At every step, the safety and well-being of our patients is paramount."

Symptoms

Moles symptoms

Moles, also known as nevi, are small, dark skin lesions caused by accumulations of melanocytes, the cells that produce pigment in our skin. They can vary in shape and size and are usually oval or round in shape with a smooth surface. Some moles are present at birth, while others appear throughout life.

Causes

Moles causes

The exact causes of moles are not fully understood, but it appears that genetic factors and sun exposure play a role. They form when melanocytes accumulate in the skin instead of being evenly distributed. Hormonal changes, such as those that occur during pregnancy or puberty, can also contribute to the formation of new moles.

Treatment

Birthmarks treatment

To improve the monitoring and early detection of potential skin cancer risks, we offer an AI-supported videographic full-body examination in our clinic. This system documents in detail the appearance of all moles on the skin and allows us to accurately track changes. This proactive monitoring is a critical component of the Skin cancer prevention.

In accordance with the legal requirements in Switzerland, laser treatment of birthmarks is not permitted due to the risk of confusion with skin cancer. If a birthmark is classified as potentially malignant, it is surgically removed in our clinic to ensure the safety of the patient.

Although we do not generally recommend the removal of benign moles, we understand that in some cases there may be a need for it due to aesthetic or personal reasons. In such cases, we can also offer surgical removal.

Our main goal is to provide safe and effective care that is tailored to each patient's individual needs. Thorough consultation is at the forefront of all treatments to ensure our patients are well informed and can choose the best treatment option for them.
