How it works

Excimer mode of action

Our Excimer Lamp emits a UVB light with a wavelength of 308 nm, which points directly to the Psoriasis- or Vitiligo Herd is directed. UV-B radiation affects the growth and maturation of melanocytes, causing the skin, for example in vitiligo, in the face and neck area repigment can. At the same time, biological processes are stimulated, which, for example in psoriasis, reduce the number of reduce pathogenic memory and effector T cells, thus helping to fight the disease.

Procedure

Excimer sequence

To determine the mass of the skin areas to be treated, templates of the affected areas are created before treatment. This avoids excessive UV-B exposure of the overall environment. The exposure itself takes only a few minutes. We recommend 2-3 treatments per week in the beginning, later one treatment per week.

The therapy is low-risk, but the skin may be red and slightly itchy immediately after treatment, like after a sunburn.

At Vitiligo at least 30 sessions must be expected. In psoriasis, improvement is usually seen after five to six sessions.

Excimer Frequently asked questions

Is the treatment painful?

No, the treatment is not painful. Treatment with the excimer lamp is not painful. However, it can cause the skin to appear slightly reddened, which feels similar to a slight sunburn after the treatment.

How long does it take until I see results?

The time it takes for the first results to become visible after treatment with the excimer lamp can vary, depending on various factors such as the condition being treated, the individual skin reaction and the intensity and frequency of use. In general, patients can expect to see initial improvements after several treatment sessions, often within a few weeks. It is important to follow the instructions of the treating professional and to be patient, as the skin needs time to respond to the therapy. Up to 30 treatments can be expected for vitiligo.

Are the results permanent, or will I have to undergo further treatments in the future?

The longevity of results after treatment with the excimer lamp depends greatly on the type of skin condition being treated. For some conditions, such as psoriasis or vitiligo, the results may be temporary and patients may require future follow-up treatments to maintain the improvements achieved. The need for and frequency of such follow-up treatments will vary depending on individual response and the long-term evolution of the skin condition.

Will I need time off work?

In general, this treatment is minimally invasive and does not involve any downtime. Most patients can resume their daily activities, including work, immediately after treatment. However, some people may experience a slight reddening of the skin or a sensation similar to a mild sunburn, but typically not severe enough to require a break from work. It is advisable to follow your practitioner's specific recommendations regarding aftercare and possible precautions. If you work in an occupation that involves direct sun exposure or extreme environmental conditions, it may be wise to take additional protective measures or make short-term adjustments based on the advice of your dermatologist.
