How it works

Remove permanent makeup mode of action

The Removal of permanent make-up (PMU) is a complex process that differs from the removal of conventional tattoos, as the pigment is worked less deeply into the skin and is broken down more quickly, especially under the influence of UV rays. If you are dissatisfied with the pigmentation, for example if eyebrows are too wide or too dark or if a lip contour has not achieved the desired result, a PMU can be a considerable psychological burden. Here is how our Picolaser process can help in the skin work.

Today, the picolaser is the gold standard for PMU removal. Using short laser pulses, the picolaser shatters the color pigments into tiny fragments without damaging the surrounding tissue. Unlike other methods such as over-pigmentation or acid treatments, the picolaser offers effective and gentle removal of PMU without scarring or other complications.

The destroyed pigments are removed by macrophages, the scavenger cells of our body. In this way, the color is effectively and safely removed from the skin. This method, when used correctly, is far superior to other methods such as Pigment Off Remover or PMU Remover.

However, it should be noted that not all PMUs can be removed equally well. In cases of severe scarring or unfavorable pigmentation, removal can be difficult and in some cases the treatment is not recommended. The safety and effectiveness of this treatment depend heavily on the experience and expertise of the practitioner. At Hautwerk, you can be sure that our professionals have the necessary craftsmanship and expertise to achieve the best possible results.

Treatment options

Remove permanent makeup treatment options

In most cases, permanent makeup is applied to the skin by specially trained cosmeticians or pigmentologists using an electric tattoo machine. Unlike other tattoos, however, PMU does not aim for lifelong coloration. In order to achieve a durability of about three to five years, the colors are inserted less deeply into the skin than with conventional tattoos. In addition, the dyes decompose under the influence of UV rays in the face much faster than on other parts of the body.

If the pigmentation is not as desired, there is often a high level of suffering, since eyebrows, eyelid lines and lips are always visible. Eyebrows that are too wide, too black and too thick can disfigure the face. It is even more problematic if the tattoo is entirely asymmetrical. Over time, a formerly brown PMU can turn blue or red. Sometimes people try to make a narrow lip larger with PMU ink. If the desired result does not occur, it is important to note that concealment with skin color is not a complete solution, and this makes laser correction more difficult.

Procedure

Remove permanent makeup procedure

The decision to remove permanent makeup (PMU) is often fraught with many questions. The good news is that PMU removal is quite doable with the right techniques and expertise. Let us explain in more detail the process of laser treatment for PMU removal at our Hautwerk clinic.

Before treatment

Before the laser treatment begins, we conduct a detailed consultation. Your individual concerns and wishes as well as the current condition of the PMU are discussed in detail. Laser therapy can only be carried out on healthy skin, so it is important that there are no acute skin diseases or infections. In addition, you should not sunbathe or visit solariums for at least four weeks before the treatment, as this sensitizes the skin and increases the risk of Pigment disorders increased.

During treatment

For laser treatment, we use the q-switched or pico laser, which is considered the gold standard for PMU removal. The color pigments of the PMU are gently blasted away using short laser pulses. The surrounding tissue remains undamaged. The shorter the laser pulse, the finer the color pigments can be shattered into tiny fragments. In certain cases, we also use the CO2 laser to achieve optimum results. This laser can also be used for skin rejuvenation and scar treatment.

After treatment

After laser treatment, the macrophages, also called phagocytes, begin to remove the fragmented color pigments. This natural cleansing process of the body can take several weeks. It is important to take good care of the treated area during this time and protect it from sunlight to ensure optimal healing and color removal. We recommend using a soothing and moisturizing cream to support the skin after laser treatment. In addition, the treated area should always be protected with a high sun protection factor to avoid pigmentation disorders.

Please note that usually several sessions at least 4 to 6 weeks apart are necessary to completely remove a PMU. The exact treatment plan depends on several factors, including the depth and quality of the pigmentation as well as the individual skin condition and healing response.

Finally, we would like to reiterate that we do not recommend attempting therapy with tattoo removers, as they are less effective and increase the risk of burns and scarring. Our practice has many years of experience in PMU removal and uses the latest laser technology to offer you the best results.

Frequently asked questions

Remove Permanent Makeup Frequently Asked Questions

What does my skin look like after permanent makeup laser treatment?

This depends on the location of the permanent makeup: After the treatment, the skin around the permanent makeup is red and swollen. This can be easily covered up on the eyebrows. When removing eyeliner, this is not possible and so it looks more noticeable. Therefore, we always recommend coming to the treatment with sunglasses to be able to hide the eyes a bit.

What can I expect during a session?

Unfortunately, the treatment is somewhat painful, but the treatment often lasts only a few seconds. Picolaser work very quickly. Eyebrows can be prepared with anesthetic cream beforehand, but this is not possible on the edge of the eyelid.

What is the recovery process like afterwards?

The pain is as good as gone at the end of the treatment, the swelling often lasts only a few hours. We give the necessary care preparations with which the skin is soothed and the color removal is promoted.

How many sessions do I need?

This varies greatly and depends on the color used. Sometimes one session is enough, often we need two to three, in individual cases it can be much more. Very rarely, colors were used that unfortunately cannot be removed with the laser at all.

Does the laser pose a risk to my health?

The greatest risk is injury to the eye. Therefore, laser treatment near the eye may only be performed by physicians who can insert the appropriate laser protective shells into the eyes.

Is it painful?

Yes, but only for a very short time.

Can I get another permanent makeup afterwards?

Yes, this is also possible once the skin has completely calmed down. We recommend waiting two months.
