Skin aging

"Skin aging" refers to the biological processes that manifest themselves, among other things, in external changes to the skin. This refers not only to aging over time, but also to intrinsic aging, i.e. the reduced reactivity of skin cells, which is genetically controlled. There are many things you can do to slow down the process of skin aging on your own. If it is already too late for that, nowadays, thanks to modern aesthetic medical technologies, there are some possibilities to support the process of skin rejuvenation."

Symptoms

Skin aging symptoms

The most noticeable signs of aging of the skin of the face are the Wrinkleswhich form from around the mid-20s. Small, flat Wrinkles are noticeable on the outer edge of the eyes, horizontal lines form on the forehead and narrower, vertical lines between the eyebrows are caused by frowning. Sagging skin causes so-called nasolabial folds between the nose and mouth, which often occur in connection with loss of volume. These wrinkles become deeper over time due to facial expressions.

Volume loss, unlike wrinkles, is not always easy to recognize. It is generally manifested by sagging skin and drooping facial contours, more specifically by the "turkey neck." The reduced volume and sagging contours caused by volume loss can give the face a bad-tempered, sad or stressed expression. The loss of density makes the skin appear thinner and weaker, losing its radiance.

Causes

Skin aging causes

With advancing age, the regenerative capacity of our skin diminishes. In addition to genetic factors, the changing hormone balance is also responsible for this. In women, this process usually begins after menopause. The falling hormone levels and the increase in so-called free oxygen radicals lead to an annual decrease of about 1 percent in the formation of the body's own hyaluron and collagen. The skin also becomes drier and thinner with age. The speed at which these processes progress depends heavily on everyday habits and can also be influenced by them.

Excessive tobacco and alcohol consumption, intense UV radiation and weather effects such as heat and cold are the best-known factors that lead to an acceleration of skin aging. They all have in common that they lead to an increase of highly reactive free oxygen radicals. These damage the genetic material, the cell membranes and the proteins that are important for the skin. Hormones, above all estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, protect against these processes, but their effectiveness also decreases with increasing age. Stress, too little sleep, an unhealthy diet (too much fat and too few vitamins) and low fluid intake also promote skin aging.

Treatment

Skin aging treatment

There are many different methods to fight aging and/or strive for skin rejuvenation.

Laser and light treatments

  • During treatment with the CO2 Laser microscopic holes are shot through the epidermis, which boosts the natural wound healing process and renews the skin.
  • The treatment with a Erbium laser promotes the production of new collagen, which is generated by the ablation of small holes.
  • LaseMD combines a laser system with exclusive ampoules, which are used for various skin diseases and for skin rejuvenation.
  • Kleresca is an innovative biophotonic light therapy, which can be used to stimulate the skin's building and repair mechanisms.
  • At the IPL Photorejuvenation uses light with wavelengths of 500-1200 nm to stimulate collagen synthesis, which is responsible for various types of photoaging damage.

Injections

  • Hyaluronic acid is an important and natural component of the human body, which is responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin. Hyaluronic acid injections replenish these reserves. Here you can opt for a normal filler, mesotherapy or Profhilo.
  • The PRP (= platelet-rich plasma) Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment based on the therapeutic use of autologous blood. The injection of the patient's own platelet-rich blood plasma, which is rich in growth factors, is suitable for rejuvenating the skin and accelerating wound healing. A PRP Treatment can be carried out with a CO2 laser be combined.

Other treatments

  • With the Ultraformer high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is used at various skin depths to stimulate collagen regeneration as well as to destroy targeted fat cells.
  • Radiofrequency treatment is a sublative fractional treatment to stimulate the production of collagen and healthy skin cells.
  • Infini is a radiofrequency therapy with microneedling for deep-acting collagen stimulation.
